유엔 총회에서 2025년을 두 번째 '세계 협동조합의 해'로 지정하며, 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 달성과 사회경제적 발전을 위한 협동조합의 역할 강조하였다. 국제협동조합연맹(ICA)은 2025년을 전 세계 100여개국 3,000여 명의 협동조합인이 참여한 글로벌 컨퍼런스를 인도 뉴델리에서 개최했으며, 나렌드라 모디 인도 총리가 참석해 공식 출범식을 진행하였다.
한국의 농업협동조합 중앙회 강호동 회장이 ICA 글로벌 컨퍼런스에서 한국 농협의 농촌 개발 사례를 소개하며, 고령화 대응을 위한 협동조합 정체성 강조하여  협동조합 법제도 개선 움직임이 활발할것으로 기대하고 있다.
